  Went bowling here Sunday to play a couple of games with friends only to find a disco environment for small children. Loud blaring music with strobes/TV screens and lanes so dark one could not even see the marks on the lanes. Fluorescent balls may be fine for kids but trying for a serious game of bowls- forget it. I would say that they did cater for people with disabilities very well as I observed a woman in a wheelchair a couple of lanes down. This is a business that does not realise adults want an environment for adults, not kids. Isolating the kiddie area so adults can play a normal game would be a great idea. Now to the (dare I actually call it a restaurant). The food here made movie theatre food look good in comparison. Highly over-priced and almost inedible. Calamari could be used for rubber bands and cheese so hot it burnt the mouth. Only decent thing on menu was the milkshake.

  I had a terrible experience, first of all there is a man named Jeff who works in the cafeteria who mixed up our orders and refused to offer a replacement or refund for our orders. Also, the bowling lane we used was broken and allowed for unlimited shots until you hit down every pin which defeats the purpose of bowling. They did not allow us to reset our lane even though the error was on their part. Terrible staff, terrible service, overpriced food. I'd stay away from AMF Sylvania whenever possible.

  I haven't been bowling since I bowled that 292 game at the NSW championships a couple of years ago. Okay, now back to reality … I really did enjoy my first bowling experience in many years. Sure, the healthy dose of humiliation I felt as I regularly failed to miss the gutter (misses evenly split between the left and right sides of the lane) was compounded by the glimpses of the guys in neighbouring lanes who effortlessly made strikes by applying more spin to bowls than skillful ping-pong players. I also didn't anticipate the finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder and neck pain I received after just two games. Despite all that, bowling has to be (at least) four stars because I've not experienced so many laughs and giggles in a long time (some of them by me). I'm also surprised at the quality of the food that I saw others enjoying. I can understand how people get caught up in a culture of regular bowling: the personalised shoes, bowls, uniform, team, competitions, trophies, high-scores; but not for me. I'll be back though … in a few years (hopefully for less pain and humiliation).

  Its alright, the bowling alley is fine. Everything else there isnt so great though.
